The castle in Bolków (Dolno¶l±skie Voivodeship) was erected in the 13th century, at the time of the partition of the Polish state. According to oral records and legends, the first fortifications in Bolków would already exist in the 9th century, and later a stone tower surrounded by wooden fortifications was to be built. However, the initiator of the construction of the castle known from today was the eccentric prince Bolesław II Rogatka, and the castle itself was built in the years 1277-1293. The building was significantly expanded by the son and successor of Bolesław II - Bolek I Strict, who was well aware of the importance of the castle guarding the economically and militarily important passages through the Sudeten range. It can be added that the same prince initiated the construction or erected also several other important castles for his country, such as in Grodno or Cisy. For many centuries, the castle was not significantly rebuilt until the beginning of the 18th century, when it was also renovated. Later, the castle was renovated several times, including in the years 1893, 1920-1923 and 1927-1928. However, the castle in Bolków received its present form after the renovation in the 1990s.
