The castle in Łańcut (Podkarpackie Province) is a magnate residence dating back to the second half of the 16th century. Probably the first residential building was erected by the noble Pilecki family in the form of a single defensive tower. Around 1610, however, this relatively small building was expanded and took the shape of a horseshoe. However, the biggest changes took place when Stanisław Lubomirski became the owner of the castle. It was then, in the years 1629-1641, according to designed by Maciej Trapoli, the complex was surrounded by modern and powerful bastion fortifications. As a result, the so-called pallazzo in fortezza, i.e. an object of a military nature, but having clear features of a residential building. After 1783, the fortifications were turned into a park. In 1816 the castle became the property of the Potocki family. Luckily, the facility did not suffer any damage in the course of both world wars. After 1945, the castle began to function as a museum.
