Units of this Corps fought mainly on the Western Front, in France, with the German army. General John Pershing became the commander-in-chief of the American Expeditionary Forces. It is worth remembering that these troops had very good medical care, which was subjected to reforms after the end of the American-Spanish War (1898). During World War I, these services grew significantly. An example is the Army Nurse Corps, which in 1901 had only 200 nurses, but in 1918 its number increased to ... 20,000! It is also worth adding that even before the outbreak of the war, effective methods of mobilizing professional medical personnel were developed and appropriate training methods were developed. All this paid off in the years 1917-1918, when more than 30,000 doctors were mobilized, including the best specialists in the US, including George Crile - the first surgeon in the history of medicine who successfully used blood transfusions during surgery.
